PARIS’ ACID BALL Top Ten

In preparation for this Saturday’s party the PARIS’ ACID BALL players (Hannah Holland, Sqeaky & Dan Beaumont) have nominated their top ten Acid Ball bangers…

The Ride Committee feat Roxy – Get Huh (e-legal mix)

First saw Roxy perform this at Daisy Chain and he certainly tore it up, it has some of the best bitchin ever..I’ll push her down backwards, I HATE HUH! SQ

Armando – Let there be house (on youtube)

I have always been into armando, he has such an amazing catalouge. there are so many tracks of his to choose from but this track is pure Paris acid ball to the core. SQ

Danny Tenaglia – Bottom heavy (bottom heavy remix)

Such an amazing track …and long too. A total ballroom workout. Danny T at his best. It’s got it all: bass, acid, percussion all wrapped in a big sound spectrum. Turn this one up! Fuck the neighbours ITS DANNY TENEGLIA! SQ

Liberty city – Some Lovin’ (Murk mix)

This track is one of the sexiest tracks that liberty city put out. The bass line is OVER gurl! The haunting chords are spine tingling. Again so much to choose from as far as Liberty city are concerned but this is it for me. Ralph falcon at his best. BRING IT! SQ

Junior Vasquez – Get Your Hands Off My Man  (Junior’s Sound Factory Mix)

Top bitch vocals, with a long drawn out bass techy house bounce…GEt YOur…. HH

Willie Ninja – Hot (Adam K & Soha Mix)

The man himself , Willie Ninja , gives it good on this vogue classic. HH (NB… we can’t find this mix on the ‘tube!)

Jeremy Joshua & Harii Bandhu – My Head (Honey Dijon’s Give Me Good Head Mix)

Honey Dijon remixes this jackin pumpin groove, pure New York fierceness. HH

Marlon D – Jesus Creates Sound

This is the absolute ultimate in-case-of-emergency-break-glass Acid Ball DJ tool… Tribally teriffic! “This is a journey into sound…” DB

Angel Moraes – Heaven Knows I Can’t Understand (Angel’s Factory Dub)

Deep, deep down! A totally hypnotic journey deep into the heart of house… Or something. Absolute dancefloor magic; full of space and voodoo. DB

Kiwi Dreams – Y? (Danny’s Ballroom mix)

Sorry… More Tenaglia! But this is such a thumper, not to mention a tried-and-tested Acid Ball all-rounder that I couldn’t resist. Total genius. DB

COMPUTER CLASSIX

Legendary purveyors of shoulderpad techno Computer Blue launch a new incarnation of their cult party this friday at Dalston Superstore… Computer Black!

Head honcho Fonteyn nominates his favourite electronic discoid moments from the vaults…

Noammon – I’m Not Ashamed

The daddy of classic CB tunes. Frenchman Kiko and his label Hot Banana had a profound effect on us, and of all his productions this is the one that separates the men from the boys. A bizarre, nay impenetrable, call to arms set to a pumping electro-disco beat. One has to be really shit-faced to get away with playing this.

Tobias Bernstrup – ‘27 (Laser Mix)

This was a late Electro-Clash record that was sold in most shops but which I never really heard played anywhere other than CB. Considering how ridiculous it is I can hardly say I’m surprised. It’s got a classic dark arpeggio bassline, italo riffs and then this guy just starts singing about what he wants done to him for his 27th birthday. Believe me its not worth repeating, but despite everything people always dance to it. No accounting for taste.

Madonna – Nobody Knows Me (Mount Sims Italo Kiss mix)

Madonna, particularly in her club days, was always a big influence on CB. Mount Sims with his pervy, melancholic electro-pop was too. So when they met it really should’ve been murdah, but Madge actually vetoed this, probably her coolest remix in years, because it was ‘too dark.’ She gave lots of remix work to Tracy Young instead, shame on you Madonna!

Crystal Fighters – At Home (Fusty Delight)

People often tend to refer to CB as an Italo-Disco club, it wasn’t. Ultimately glamour and electronic emotion were the key factors in anything we played over years. This is a beautiful song by these rising stars and this remix conjures up scenes of high drama in exotic locations. In other words, CB in a nutshell.

Sabrina – Boys Boys Boys

There’s plenty of ‘credible’ electronic music I’ve played at CB that I could mention but that’s probably not what you want to hear. Sabrina was thee CB kinda girl; fast, loose and didn’t give a shit about getting a white bikini wet. At one point there was a high glam period at CB where a lot of girls at the club were actually, genuinely rocking the Sabrina look. Great days indeed. The song itself is a blistering hi-NRG/Euro-banger and in homage to that time, you can hear music like this all night long upstairs as played by Greek DJ duo The Hellenic Hair Hoppers.

Yikes! Thanks Fonteyn

RUSH HOUR TOP 5!

We’re rather excited about our party with Rush Hour and Warm on 18th March so we asked Rush Hour’s wonderful founder Cool Chris to nominate his top 5 musical inspirations that led to launching his very awesome label and shop

Carl Craig – No More Words

It could have been any Carl Craig recorsd, really. Here’s one of his earlier ones to which I would lose my mind when I was younger. Still do btw.
MoodyMann – Lake Shore Drive
KDJ & Theo Parrish were a big inspiration at the time we were forming Rush Hour. KDJ imports were hard to get back then, because nobody really took notice yet. I remember we searched all over to get as many in the store once we would open.
Population One – Rush Hour
I can only find the remix on youtube. We were looking for a name for the store and while we were getting high on nytro we were playing this record over and over. After about an hour or so we looked at the label, which just said Rushhour, et voila.
DJ Krust – Future Unknown
Ah yes, Krust.. Crazy, crazy, crazy tune.. We used to sell loads of drum n bass when we just opened. Too bad it all went a bit down the hill from there.
The PJ Project – Weak
Could have been any good late 80s/early90′s Chicago house record, but this Paul Johnson was a biggie at the time. Sampling and chopping r&b records seems to be quite the fashion again… rewind!

STRIP JACK NAKED… Screening at the Rio

This Friday down at local Dalston institution the Rio our friends at Outeast are holding a special screening, and if you hold on to your ticket stub you can jump the queue at Dalston Superstore…

NIGHTHAWKS II: STRIP JACK NAKED (18) 11.30pm

(UK 1991. dir. Ron Peck) 91m.
Nick Bolton, John Brown, John Diamon.

NIGHTHAWKS II: STRIP JACK NAKED puts Ron Peck’s original 1978 groundbreaking landmark gay movie NIGHTHAWKS into a 1991 historical and personal context as the director reflects on his own personal journey from closeted suburban teen to politically radicalised filmmaker. The result is one of the most honest and abrasive of film autobiographies. Inevitably, the film reflects the society and attitudes of the time and although laws and policy may have changed in the last twenty years, homophobia itself has clearly not gone away and remains an issue for us all.
